From our offices in central Manchester, Aberdeen might sometimes feel like the other end of the world. In reality though, it isn’t.
But it’s not just the sights or friendly locals that keep bringing the NeuWave team back to Aberdeen. Much of the UK’s offshore infrastructure can be located across the northern Scottish coastlines. And there’s plenty to report from north of the wall.

Aberdeen’s role in the UK’s offshore industry ecosystem
Between the wind farms, civil construction and maintenance projects, shipping companies, and the international port, Aberdeen sits at the heart of the UK’s offshore industry ecosystem.
Its position in the UK offshore landscape is well-earned. The city has spent decades building the physical infrastructure, specialist workforce, and deep commercial networks that keep offshore operations moving.
The coastal city is a key player in the UK’s renewables system. That foundation is being rapidly and constantly reshaped, but local authorities are investing in port upgrades and training pipelines that support emerging marine technologies. Meanwhile, companies that once relied on oil and gas are now branching into offshore wind engineering, subsea robotics, and sustainable digital operations.
This blend of established capability and growing innovation is exactly what the UK needs as it accelerates its renewable rollout. Aberdeen is positioning itself as a long-term anchor for offshore energy, helping the wider industry move faster and operate safer.
Offshore wind farm development and operations in Aberdeen
Traditionally, offshore industry in Aberdeen has been largely dominated by oil and gas production, with the Port of Aberdeen being a national hub for imports and exports. In recent years, however, Aberdeen has made a distinct move towards a more renewable outlook.
This is good news for everyone, since successful transition to greener power hinges on repurposing the old fossil fuel local strongholds. Aberdeen’s own move towards offshore wind is a practical evolution based on decades of offshore know-how.
Existing infrastructure and specialists are being repurposed, and developers entering the region can tap into a mature ecosystem that already understands the requirements and realities of working in North Sea conditions.
The region is already home to a number of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms, and there are plans in place to install even more in the next few years. Aberdeen is at the core of the UK’s renewable energy future.
Several next-generation projects are also moving through planning and early construction phases, pushing deeper into Scottish waters and testing new approaches for offshore innovation in Scotland.
Plans also include exciting floating offshore wind (FLOW) projects, which will be some of the first of their kind operating at this capacity and scale.
With FLOW becoming a commercial reality, Aberdeen is quickly becoming the UK’s proving ground. These projects are expected to shape national standards for deep-water wind, giving Scotland a leading position in the global floating offshore wind market.

Pending NeuWave ventures in Aberdeen
The team visited Aberdeen a number of times throughout 2025, and are excited to head back this year. We’ve spoken to professionals working on land and at sea, and the need for smart environmental intelligence solutions is abundantly clear.
With that in mind, we’re launching NeuWave in the East of Scotland. We’ll be covering Aberdeen for now, as the UK’s leading offshore hub, but look forward to expanding this in the future.
We can’t really say too much (for now), but we’ve got a few trials earmarked with wind farm developments in the region.
We’re building local models for the trials, able to conduct environmental forecasting up to a industry-leading 500m resolution. This provides intelligence from initial site assessment to ongoing asset and fleet management; and is high enough resolution to offer unprecedented nearshore insight.
NeuWave data is validated with real-time buoy feeds and radar. As an industry first, it now also incorporates satellite data, something which it was previously not possible to conduct consistently.
This is a natural place to shamelessly plug NeuWave services, and we’d love to hear from you! Get in touch with the team for more information, or to discuss setting up a trial for your own offshore project in the East Scotland region.
So, what does NeuWave East Scotland actually offer?
- Planning and Predictive Maintenance: Predict and plan for asset wear-and-tear, and schedule essential maintenance and fleet management.
- Environmental Modelling: Get high-resolution environmental modelling for sea states and weather window predictions.
(Aside from free initial onboarding, of course!)
As Aberdeen enters a chapter defined by renewable growth and smarter operations, we can hear the calls for actionable environmental intelligence. Some major offshore wind projects are accelerating, and the region is set to power the critical engine behind the UK’s renewable energy transition.
With the launch of NeuWave East Scotland, we’re proud to be a part of that shift. Supporting developers with provable, data-driven clarity as the industry scales up to meet its future.
