NeuWave Joins the Ocean Autonomy Cluster in January 2026

In January 2026, NeuWave officially joined the Ocean Autonomy Cluster; a global hub dedicated to advancing sustainable autonomy across maritime and offshore operations.

The partnership brings together shared priorities: practical innovation, operational readiness, and cutting-edge technology that performs in real world conditions. As autonomy moves from concept to execution, trusted environmental intelligence becomes essential.

This collaboration strengthens the ecosystem needed to make offshore autonomy scalable, reliable, and commercially viable – as soon as possible.

Better decisions with better context…

NeuWave products integrate diverse, trusted metocean data into offshore workflows. Supporting safer mission planning, improved uptime, and informed decision-making for autonomous and remote marine operations.

What is the Ocean Autonomy Cluster (and what does it do?)

The Ocean Autonomy Cluster (OAC) is a leading research hub for ocean autonomy expertise. Established in 2020, the OAC is run by one of Norway’s largest innovation companies (Future Innovations) and builds upon the country’s deep maritime history and identity.

The research group is made up of established multinational offshore companies, as well as the cutting-edge startups that are actively revolutionising the market.

Consisting of over 70 partners that are based both in Norway and abroad (including us here in the UK), the OAC represents a diverse collaborative network with the shared goal of sustainable autonomy in maritime operations.

The OAC has outlined a clear strategy for accelerating ocean autonomy, based around 4 practical objectives:

  1. Internationalisation and scaling: Establishing an international position in Europe, the US, and Canada
  2. Market development and commercialisation: Increasing the pace of innovation for tech, tools, and products
  3. Supplier networks and value chains: Developing tailored services around autonomous ocean tech
  4. Industrial acceleration: Strengthening the region’s visibility and position by increasing host appeal

Partners span these objective points, bringing together expertise, access, and solutions, across the offshore and maritime sectors. (We fit in at around points 2 and 3!)

NeuWave’s membership in the OAC

The Ocean Autonomy Cluster’s strong central belief in the essential nature of autonomous systems aligns with our vision here at NeuWave.

Accurate, timely environmental insights are fundamental for offshore autonomy – from successful scheduling and planning, to system performance, and operational safety throughout missions. NeuWave therefore contributes to the OAC by sharing our unique environmental intelligence insights, and strengthening the hub’s value chain.

In practice, this means supporting autonomy past the concept stage, throughout real operational lifecycle points.

“Our goal is to provide operators with actionable insight they can trust when planning and executing missions,” Jana mentioned in her chat with the OAC press team. With technology that is proving particularly valuable for autonomous and remotely operated marine systems, our tools and insights are the missing piece of the puzzle for autonomy offshore.

From the NeuWave side, however, we’re also hoping to tap into the expanded, diverse hub network; and facilitate deeper sharing of ideas across borders with our neighbours in Europe and beyond – accelerating learning, alignment, and progress across the wider international autonomy ecosystem.

Accelerating ocean autonomy, right now

The Ocean Autonomy Cluster website headlines the idea of accelerating ocean autonomy for “a better tomorrow”. That’s a noble cause, and one which we support wholeheartedly here at NeuWave – but we’re also striving to take this a step further.

We’re not trying to build better tools for the future (however near); we’re building solutions for today.

Autonomous and remotely operated marine systems will fail if decisions and planning is based on an incomplete image of the local environment. Uncertainty around weather windows, sea states, and the true environmental risks limit mission reliability and commercial confidence. And that’s right where NeuWave fits.

Our platform delivers high-resolution, site-specific environmental intelligence across project life stages, enabling autonomous systems to plan and operate with clarity, not caution. From route optimisation and mission scheduling to real-time operational awareness, accurate metocean insight is a prerequisite to safe, successful autonomy.

By integrating trusted environmental data into autonomy workflows now (not later), we help reduce risk, increase uptime, and unlock real-world scalability. The result is autonomy that works beyond trials and testbeds, and performs reliably in live offshore conditions.

Joining the Ocean Autonomy Cluster marks an important step in NeuWave’s continued focus on practical offshore autonomy. By combining trusted environmental intelligence with a collaborative, international network, we’re helping move autonomy from controlled trials into everyday operations.

The challenges facing autonomous systems are real; but so are the solutions. And they start with clarity, confidence, and decisions grounded in data that reflects the ocean as it actually is.

Environmental clarity is the foundation of autonomy…

If you agree with this, you’re in the right place! NeuWave products support autonomous offshore operations with high-resolution environmental data – improving planning, design, safety, and system performance.
